Prevention is the key to a longer, healthier life for all of us
including our pets. The staff at Stonecliff Animal Clinic prides
ourselves on providing our clients with the education and services
to help all of our patients reach this goal. We have many programs
designed to provide needed services for all ages of pets, with financial
considerations in mind for the owner. Check out what we have to
offer:
The
Puppy and Kitten Club was developed to help guide the new owner
through the pediatric year. We follow the guidelines set forth by
the American Animal Hospital Association for vaccination, deworming,
microchipping, flea and tick prevention, and spay and neuter recommendations.
We also hold puppy socialization classes right here at the clinic
on a weekly basis. Our doctors and technicians are also available
to help the owner with breed choices, house training tips, diet
choices and anything else that clients may be confused about.
Stonecliff Animal Clinic feels wellness care and preventative medicine
is the key to helping our pets live long, healthy lives regardless
of their age. A variety of factors affect how fast your pet will
age, and many are under the owners control.

Oral
health maintenance starts from day one. We recommend that owners
get their puppies and kittens use to having their mouths examined
early in their lives. This helps make our job a little easier. Each
year when your pet comes in for a physical exam, the doctor will
examine the teeth for signs of injury or decay. Frequently pets
need dental cleanings to remove built up tarter or an injured tooth.
SAC provides all the dental care services your pet may need from
ultrasonically cleaning and polishing, to extractions and diet recommendations.
We also carry a full line of oral hygiene items to help the owner
at home prevent early tooth loss. February is national Dental Health
Month, and SAC gives all of our clients 10% off the cost of the
dental procedures!
SAC provides full radiology and ultrasound services. From injuries
to pregnancy detection, our hospital is fully equipped to diagnosis
many conditions that many hospitals would have to refer elsewhere.
Dr. Cook has a strong background in cardiac ultrasound examinations,
and Dr. Kelly uses radiographs to diagnose ACL ruptures and fractures
as well as many other diagnoses that can be achieved with the use
of xray.

Dr.
Kelly is our main surgeon at Stonecliff Animal Clinic. He performs
many routine surgeries each day, but he is also experienced with
many more complicated procedures. We are also the first clinic in
Vermont to perform the Tibial Plateau Leveling Osteotomy surgery,
(see related story). Dr. Kelly
has a strong interest in Canine Sports Medicine, and has a strong
following in the sporting and field dog trial world. Clients travel
from near and far to consult with Dr. Kelly on their pets' orthopedic
conditions.
Our staff is totally committed to the welfare of our hospitalized
patients, and routine or complicated surgery patients are all treated
with the same gentle care. SAC has a very strong pain management
program, and our staff is trained to evaluate pain in their non-talking
patients in order to help prevent suffering. Our surgical patients
have a technician assigned to them from the moment they enter the
hospital, and are available throughout the day to ease a worried
owner's mind. Animals never recover from anesthesia alone and our
staff is well versed in comforting the scared patient. We treat
your special companion like it was one of our own, everyday!

Martha Cunningham directs all of our obedience and agility training
classes right here at the clinic. Our large warehouse functions
as a wonderful training facility, and Martha has equipped it with
rubber flooring and agility obstacles for all levels of training.
She also holds puppy socialization classes, and many times her
own highly trained golden retrievers participate for demonstration.
With a friendly, fun atmosphere, your dog will be an obedience
wizard in no time at all with these classes. Click here for
all the details about Obedience/Agility Training at Stonecliff
Animal Clinic and The Canine Academy.
Did
you know that the average dog and cat is considered a "Senior Citizen"
somewhere between the ages of eight and ten? Many factors affect
how fast your pet will age, large breeds typically faster then smaller
breeds, hereditary factors related to certain breeds, diet, exercise
level, etc. Due to advances in human and veterinary medicine, we
along with our pets have a great opportunity to live longer, healthier
lives.
But prevention is the key. The sooner a condition such as heart
disease is discovered, the better chance it can be treated before
irreversible damage has already occurred. People tend to be complainers
when there not feeling well whereas we must rely on keen observation
and diagnostic testing in order to discover early, many of our pets
ailments.

Though it is not something any of us want to think about, we all
get old. When the time comes to make difficult decisions to ease
your friends suffering,, the staff at Stonecliff Animal Clinic are
here to help in whatever way we can. Euthanasia is an option an
owner has to help end suffering in a critically ill patient. We
honor our clients decisions, and help guide them through education
and emotional support. Our hospital was designed with a room that
has more of the comforts of home, to help make this time easier
on you and your pet. For the client that would like to not have
to come to the clinic, we also perform home euthanasia. Our goal
is to make this time as easy for you as possible, so please do not
hesitate to ask if you have a special request during this difficult
period.

resident of Bradford, and avid animal lover. The fund is used in
unique or extreme situations, when a family or person is unable
to provide medical services for their pet due to short-term financial
hardship. A core group of staff members is involved on making decisions
on where money from this fund is contributed. Stonecliff Animal
Clinic makes memorial donations in your pets honor when they have
passed on, with hope that your heart may rest easier knowing that
your pets memory is helping another animal in need. If you would
like to donate to the fund, please make your check out to The Kenneth
Vittum Fund.
Local senior citizens can take advantage of our "Take care of our
Senior Citizens" Program. Any local seniors that have difficulty
getting to the clinic due to bad weather or transportation difficulties
can call the clinic to have their pet picked up and delivered back
home. This service is free for local seniors to help make their
life a little easier also. In addition, we offer a 10% discount
to all senior citizens, even if you don't need to take advantage
of the pet pick-up service.
